Portland Fire Unveil “The Fire Pit” Might Be the Best Court in the League

The Portland Fire unveiled “The Fire Pit” this week — the Moda Center court design for their inaugural 2026 WNBA season — and it’s stunning. The design centers on a custom, first-of-its-kind wooden basket weave pattern running along both sides of the court, a nod to the foundation of a fire. At center court sits the team’s signature flamed rose logo. And around the perimeter, a gradient shifts from Fire Red to Rose Pink to Glacier Blue, representing — in the team’s own words — the spark, the heat, and the future.

“We set out to create a design that purposefully reflects this city and team history, with intention in every detail,” said Kimberly Veale, the Fire’s SVP of Marketing and Communications. “From the foundation of the basket weave to the progression of the flame, The Fire Pit is designed to be the ultimate community gathering space that fuels Fire team pride and passion all season long.”

The court integrates the franchise’s past, present, and future. The original Portland Fire played just three seasons before folding in 2002. The name was revived when RAJ Sports — led by Alex Bhathal and Lisa Bhathal Merage, who also own the Portland Thorns — paid $125 million for the league’s 15th franchise in 2024. This time, the organization looks like it’s built to last.

Portland fans will get their first look at The Fire Pit this Sunday when the team hosts the LA Sparks in their second preseason game. The official home opener is May 9 against the Chicago Sky.

The comments say it all. “Best court in the league.” We’re inclined to agree.
