Nike Air Max 90 ‘Laser Blue’ 2020 – The Perfect Retro

Put a hand up, if you never owned a pair of Air Max 90’s. Well, both of my hands are definitely down. Air Max 90 is classic. It’s an icon. It’s one of the most important parts of Nike’s history and is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year.

I have to admit, if you asked me 10 years ago, I would’ve said they’re average. As time went by, I started noticing their potential and right now, I’m a full-on Air Max 90 fan. Not only are they timeless, but also super comfy, so you can imagine my happiness when I grabbed the Laser Blue 2020 pair, for below retail last week!

This year’s re-edition of the classic OG colorway is giving me all kinds of retro throwback feels, starting with the box which is made to imitate the one from 30 years ago. I am honestly positively surprised with this release. If you’re an Air Max collector, you remember the ‘banana’-shape toeboxes that we were getting the past few years, as we all were trying different methods to make them flat. Well, this time, Nike gave us a very sharp shape, and it’s looking just like the OG.

Apart from the standard Nike tag inside the shoe, there is also a size stamp printed next to the ankle and a special retro tag on the underside of the tongue. The tongue itself is thicker and feels closer to the old releases from 30 years ago. What I especially like about this retro, is the fact that Nike actually gives you a bag with foam arch support, that you can put inside the shoe to get that perfect anatomical fit.

Also, it’s worth noting that the 2020 Air Max 90 releases have seen a change in shape of panels – mesh toeboxes are wider and there is less leather in the front of the shoe, just like the OG version. This, in turn, affects the sizing as they run a bit smaller in my opinion. As usual, I took a size 8.5 and they are quite tight compared to my BETRUE 2019 Air Max 90, which were manufactured using previous shape of panels. I’m sure though that I just need to break my Laser Blues in, and they will be perfect.

I’m surprised to see that quite a few stores online still have sizes left. These shoes are not expensive either, if you want to go through sneaker marketplace platforms. I’m super happy with my purchase and am definitely looking forward to the Infrared colorway that is supposed to release later this year.
