Weekly Roundup 10.31

SBs and potential Sneaker of the Year hit shelves, while Sacai and Nike gave us a few more colorways, and with the Nike Halloween pack hitting SNKRS, this week was one of those where you had to play Rock, Paper, Scissors to see what shoe you would cop.

The Nike SB Dunk Low “Mummy” was one of the highly anticipated releases this year and these did not disappoint. Inspired by the mummification process, this sneaker is wrapped in a tear-away cream canvas upper with ruffle edges that represent the work of the ancient Egyptians. This process would wrap the person, after death, in white linen and this person would be buried with all of the riches and jewels accumulated in life. It was said that to get into the afterlife, the riches and jewels would be needed to be presented to the God Anubis, but some did not get in and these individuals dwelled are the earth as mummies and unwanted souls. This shoe represents the mummy lurking in the shadows, with a grey suede Swoosh, glowing eyes, eyes peeking on the heel, and toilet paper graphics on the insole.

Nike’s Halloween pack dropped this weekend after being passed back last week. But, some didn’t mind the reschedule, with the sneakers dropping the day before the spooky holiday. This pack included two shoes in black and orange colorways, the Nike Air Force 1 and the Nike Air Presto. Both bring the spirit of Halloween to life with black uppers, scary print all over, and staring eyes. An embroidered orange spider replaces the Swoosh that is usually present on the left toe box of the Presto, giving more of the spooky feel. Sacai x Undercover x Nike continues to give us instant classic with their ongoing collaborations. This week, we got a chance to grab three new colorways on the popular LDWaffle. This go-around, the colorways include “Black/Bright Citron”, “Night Maroon/Team Royal”, and “Midnight Spruce/University Red”. Just like the others, these did not sit long and sold out in seconds. The LDWaffle is still considered a new model, but it has become one of the hottest one in recent years.

Nike and Jordan give us a few other gems this week, and the Billie Eillish x Jordan 15 was at the top of the list. The subtle colorway is dressed in a tan vegan leather and mesh upper that is constructed using 20% recycled materials by weight. Another Patta x Nike Air Max 1 hit European retailers this week and with the time difference, left a lot of us with that unfortunate “L”. But, don’t worry, the US release was pushed back until November 4th, so this gives us one more chance to cop one of the top sneakers of 2021. This pair adds a small detail to the iconic Air Max 1 with the wave pattern mudguard and Patta branding on the tongue.

Other notable releases this week were two colorways on the Yeezy Foam Runner, Vermillion and Ochre, Sean Wotherspoon x Adidas SuperEarth, Adidas Yeezy 500 “Clay Brown”, and the Air Jordan 3 “Pine Green”. A great way to end October, as we only look for releases to get bigger and bigger, going into the holiday season. Continue to keep your ear to the streets and, as always, rise, grind and buy sneakers.
