Washington Mystics General Manager Mike Thibault announced that 11-year veteran guard Shavonte Zellous has signed with the team.
“Shavonte gives us a veteran, versatile wing player with championship experience,” said Thibault. “She is having a terrific season in Turkey – the third leading scorer. She is an excellent defender, and her defensive ability will fit in perfectly with our team.”
Zellous was selected in the first round (11th overall) of the 2009 WNBA Draft by the Detroit Shock and went on to be named to the All-Rookie Team. She spent six seasons with the Indiana Fever, where she helped the team win the 2012 WNBA Championship. Following a career 2013 season, Zellous was named the WNBA’s Most Improved Player of the Year while also earning an All-Star nod. After three seasons with the New York Liberty, Zellous spent the 2019 season with the Seattle Storm. Her career averages include 8.9 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game.
For the last five years, Zellous has played in Turkey. She is currently with Cankaya Universitesi Ankara and leads her team in minutes (37.8), points (22.0) and assists per game (4.9).
