NEW YORK LIBERTY AND NIA LONG ANNOUNCE BACK-TO-SCHOOL CELEBRATION, GAME NIGHT AND PANEL DISCUSSION

The New York Liberty are proud to announce the team’s Back-to-School Celebration, game night, and panel discussion in partnership with Nia Long, celebrated Brooklyn native, actress, philanthropist, and mother. The pregame celebration will take place on Friday, August 20 at 5 p.m. ET on Barclays Center Plaza. The Liberty will then host the Seattle Storm at Barclays Center with tip-off at 7 p.m. ET on YES Network App.

The Back-to-School Celebration, a long-overdue outdoor event, will provide students with wellness and educational resources with the goal of supporting our local community as the next generation of leaders prepare to return to the classroom. The event, which is free and open to the public, will feature live entertainment, giveaways, as well as activations and tools provided by mental wellness organizations, school networks, and New York Liberty corporate partners.

Walmart will provide backpacks and school supplies for students who attend the pregame event. The activations on the plaza will also include TECHPLUG, Dissipating Disparities, Inc., Salveo Innovations, and Simple HealthKit to ensure our community has the needed health information and resources for a safe return to school.

“The New York Liberty and Nia Long share the common goal of holistically supporting our youth in their return to school this fall,” said Liberty CEO Keia Clarke. “We understand the importance of mental, physical and social readiness, and the Back-to-School celebration will help our students, parents, teachers and administrators prepare for a successful academic year ahead.

“As a native New Yorker and mother, it is an honor to team up with the New York Liberty and the team’s CEO, Keia Clarke to address mental wellness and provide emotional support for the children of New York and their families,” said Nia Long. “As we prepare our children for back to school, it is important that we recognize and identify the devastating effects of this pandemic. This weekend is all about community and love.”

The Liberty will provide a custom pencil case and supplies to the first 3,000 fans who attend the game. Throughout the game, the team will recognize educators, counselors, and other significant individuals who have dedicated their careers to the betterment of students.
