Nike SB Dunk High x The Carpet Company

Carpet Company is a skate brand founded by two Egyptian brothers in Baltimore: Osama and Ayman Abdeldayem. They have just released their latest collaboration with Nike and I have to say they hit the bullseye. The brands brought an SB Dunk High into the workshop and created a very exciting design I’m happy to tell you about.

While it was extremely hard to pick a pair up, a family member of mine somehow managed to grab them from the SNKRS app. The shoes released in 2 different versions: in a regular box and in a very limited Friends & Family tin packaging.

There’s a lot happening on the shoes and even more will resurface as you go because the top layer of the upper is intended to be worn-away. What looks like blue panels in theory, is hiding yellow design underneath. The creators of this shoe made sure you get all the fun, so they also included white tear-away panels on the back of the shoes to reveal a surprise message in English on the left shoe and in Arabic on the right.

The Carpet Dunks come with 4 extra sets of laces, so you get 5 in total: white, black, sail, gold yellow and light blue. There are beige suede panels on the sides of the shoes and a star-shaped Carpet Company logo embroidered on the heel side of the upper. The midsole has been aged on purpose and is of a tinted yellow color which goes well with the overall design. If you turn the shoe over, you will also notice a black and white CARPET stamp printed on the outsole. Probably my favorite detail in this release is a sewn in label inside the shoes depicting a lamb. Right next to it you will also find a message in Arabic embroidered on the ankle padding. Even the insoles are customized for this release and they include Carpet’s graphic of ‘Angry Man & Thank-You Man’ which you can also find on the upper once you tear off the blue fabric.

When it comes to the materials used, the white leather is of good quality and creases nicely if you squeeze it. My pair arrived with no flaws and is manufactured perfectly. Size-wise, I like my SB dunks a bit looser so would usually go with 9 US, but my true size 8.5 US is good too.

The sneakers released with a whole apparel line, including a hoodie, cap, t-shirt and a few other things, so you can complete your look and have a full matching outfit.
