Six days ago, Kennedy Burke tallied a career-high 23 points against the Seattle Storm. Burke responded with her second-highest point total this season, good for a team-high 17 points, against the league-leading Storm in an 87-74 loss.
Indiana (5-9) built a lead as large as seven in the first quarter thanks to nine quick points from Kelsey Mitchell and four assists handed out by Natalie Achonwa. Mitchell ended the night with 15 points, while Achonwa was inserted back into the starting lineup for the firsT time since July 31. Achonwa ended with 11 points, six rebounds and tied a career-high five assists on Tuesday night.
Seattle (12-3) gained control in the second quarter after a Sami Whicomb runner in the lane broke the 30-30 tie with 5:57 remaining in the half. Seattle went on a 13-0 run over the next 3:24 to extend the lead and never look back the rest of the way in the final regular season matchup this season between the two teams.
Breanna Stewart led all scorers with 27 points, nine rebounds, four assists, four steals and two blocks for Seattle. Alysha Clark added 11 points and eight rebounds for the Storm, who next face Las Vegas on Thursday night.
For the Fever, Julie Allemand kept pace with Achonwa’s five assists while also chipping in 11 points. It was Allemand’s seventh game with at least 10 points this season.
Teaira McCowan came off the bench to snag 11 rebounds. Alisia Jenkins made her Fever debut on Tuesday night in her first game with the team after being signed on August 17.
