The WNBA announced today that Sparks forward/center Candace Parker won the Western Conference Player of the Week Award, her 27th time winning the honor (second most in WNBA history). Courtney Vandersloot of the Chicago Sky won from the Eastern Conference. Attached is the Player of the Week graphic from the WNBA.
Parker led the Sparks to a 3-0 record this past week and averaged 18.3 points, 11.7 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per game while shooting 54.5% from the field and recording two double-doubles. Parker was also a force defensively and is Top 3 in the WNBA in defensive win shares and defensive rating, per Basketball-Reference. Parker is also first in the WNBA in rebounds per game at 9.8.
In her 13th season, Parker is a candidate for MVP and Defensive Player of the Year, as well as First Team All-WNBA and First Team All-Defense. For the season she’s averaging 14 points, 9.8 rebounds and 4 assists per game and shooting 47.3% from the field.
The Sparks look to extend their winning streak to eight games when they face the Minnesota Lynx Wednesday at 5 p.m. PT on CBS Sports Network.
