Game Day

Mystics Ruling Fashion and Hoops

The Mystics are the hottest team in the WNBA right now. They are currently riding a five-game winning streak (longest in the league) and Elena Delle Donne looks like the MVP. No doubt they put hours in the gym and are dedicated to perfecting their craft. But on game days, they are treating the player’s entrance, as their own personal runway.

June marked the celebration of Pride Month and the Mystics were all in. EDD was one of the first to debut to “Be True” KD 12 in-game. Tasha Cloud also wrapped up the month-long celebration nicely, by wearing the Air Max 720 “Be True” on her way into the arena on Sunday. The Mystics are always one of the more fashion-forward teams in the league. They’re definitely living up to their reputation while celebrating diversity, inclusiveness, and individualism.

Basketball-wise, it’s business as usual for the ladies of Capital City. The Mystics stand at 9-3 and are a half-game ahead of the Connecticut Sun for 1st place. The Sun got the best of them in the first two matchups so far this year, so the Mystics had a point to prove and they did that in spectacular fashion. The 102-59 win was the largest margin of victory in franchise history and they controlled the game in every facet, from start to finish. Washington is one of the most potent teams in the league, offensively, but they showed how dominant they can be on the defensive side as well. When both things are clicking at the same time at such a high level, the result is never pretty for the opposition.

As we move into July, we can only expect that the Mystics will continue to turn up the heat. They are applying pressure, on and off the court. In the gym, we’ve seen the type of damage they can do. And they are most assuredly taking this “Run It Back” mantra to heart. And off the court, the Mystics are definitely gunning for “Best Dressed” superlative in the WNBA 2019-2020 yearbook so don’t expect any fall off in that department. They have my vote.
