Virgil Abloh| Icons x Somethings Off

Last week SNKRS had a virtual event hosted by Shaniqwa Jarvis, with guests: Virgil Abloh, Zak Keyes and Glenn Adamson, discussing Virgil’s New Book Dropping Soon; Icons-Something’s Off; which has been 2 years in the making.

When we think Virgil Abloh, we probably think Off-White Sneakers. However, for Virgil it’s deeper than that. “Sneakers attempt to tell a story… sneakers have ascended to a pedestal”. In Virgil’s Collection of The Ten-Off-White Sneakers collaboration with Nike, each sneaker is distinct and tells their own aesthetic story.

Shaniqwa asked each guest what does it mean for a Sneaker to be ICONIC? Zak stated, ” when it redefines its’ category”. Glenn said, ” Sneakers are like a religion, a sneaker cult/foundation. Spiritual, emotional, celebrity culture and finding your way. Virgil claimed, “What’s more iconic than Michael Jordan? “. Vigil explained that Michael Jordan was his superman. He never thought he would go from being a consumer to a creator at Nike. Who would have thought a young black kid from Chicago, parents from Ghana, would ever have the opportunity to design what is now a coveted collection of Sneakers, The Ten-Off-White with a company as big as Nike?

Virgil Abloh will drop his iconic book, Something’s Off, on January 22, 2021 on the SNKRS app for $70. Iconic will show you the process, intensity and materials he uses to create the intricate details behind the design of each individual sneaker in The Ten-Off White Collection.

One of the things I think is most iconic about Virgil is his fresh approach on everything he creates. It’s always dope to take a closer look at the details he uses on his sneakers. I love that the book will take a deeper dive into how he unleashes his creativity. We can’t wait to see what the future has instore for Virgil Abloh.
