June Roundup
A crazy week on the calendar and a crazy week of rumors and a little drama, it has been very eventful in the sneaker community. From Vanessa Bryant and Nike not seeing eye to eye and another rumored Dior x Jordan 1, you had to keep your head on a spin to keep up with all that was sneakers this week. But the calendar this week picked up and showed out, with a lot of heaters.
Lebron and the L.A. Lakers took an early departure from the postseason this year, but we have much to look forward to from King James this summer. Space Jam 2 “A New Legacy” hits theaters in July, featuring WNBA stars, Diana Taurasi and Nneka Ogwunmike, while Lebron and designer, Mimi Plange, give us a chance to grab the Mimi Plange x Nike Lebron 18 Low “Higher Learning”. Based on the letterman jacket of the high school Lebron established a few years ago, the sneaker comes in a white, burgundy, and yellow upper, with chenille patchwork. The patchwork includes lions, basketball hoops, and much more, with the accents made to favor the look for a classic letterman jacket. Some want the Nike Dunk back in the vault, but others want Nike to keep going. This week, two more colorways of the Nike Dunk Low hit SNKRS and select retailers – the Michigan and Michigan State. Giving notice to the heated rivalry between these two in-state schools, these sneakers come in the clean color block leather and white uppers, with the school colors of each team represented on each respective pair.
Jordan Brand always comes in strong during the summer and this week, they started the summer off right. The Women’s Air Jordan 1 “Court Purple” hit retailers and did not sit long. This OG colorway of the Jordan 1 features a white leather upper with metallic detailing and was given a dope upgrade, adding purple satin lining inside the shoe. Also, continuing an ongoing trend, Jordan Brand has been giving us a few collegiate PE’s as general releases. The Air Jordan 6 “Electric Green” looks very similar to a white Women’s Oregon Duck PE we featured on Instagram a couple of years back. These come in a black nubuck upper and bright lime green detailing and accents. But as usual, the Oregon branding has been removed from the sneaker.
Reebok has been represented in the WNBA, by stars, Lexie Brown and sneaker guru, Ty Young, with recent retros making a comeback in the sneaker world. This week, the iconic Reebok Answer 4 “Stepover” hit the scene and this sneaker is a must. Named after Allen Iverson’s ‘step over and stare down’ of now Clippers coach, Ty Lue, this shoe is one that you must have in the hoop collection.
Other notable releases this week are the Fragment Design x Nike Dunk High, the Nike Ky-D Collection, and the Adidas Yeezy 500 “Taupe Light”. A heavy week on the calendar and there is more to come. Keep a watchful eye to the streets and as always, continue to rise, grind and buy sneakers.
