Stewie and KD: Sneaker Buddies

They both will be missed on the court, while they recover, but we know they will be back with a vengeance.

Breanna Stewart and Kevin Durant are pretty much each other’s counterparts. Both are arguably the best players in their leagues. Both won a championship and Finals MVP last year. Stewart plays in the city where KD started his NBA career, and now they will both display their resiliency, determination, and grit as they rehab from Achilles injuries.

Given their similarities, it’s only natural that Nike would lace Stewart with custom KD’s that would make any sneakerhead jealous. Stewie has been rocking some serious PE heat since her rookie season with the KD 8, and she’s been killing the game ever since. While Breanna’s collection maybe a little more reserved than her teammate, Sue Bird, who has been giving us custom Kyrie drip for a while now. During the summer Stewart stepped into the Kyrie camp for a second with the Kyrie 4 “Force is Female”. These kicks are still impressive nonetheless.

She delivered a championship to the Seattle Storm last year wearing a KD 11 Storm Yellow PE, which definitely turned some heads. Her craziest pair yet was probably the KD 11’s she broke out in the All-Star Game last year. While most of her exclusives feature her team colors, these were eccentric and out of the norm. Stewart said they were one of her favorite shoes, due to their exclusivity.

Durant has always been complimentary of Stewart’s game. That should not come as a surprise since they boast an eerily similar skillset. Both are exceptional ball handlers, can score in a variety of ways, threats from the inside and outside, outstanding defenders and have championship mettle. I would not be surprised at all if KD insisted that she don his signature shoes once she signed with Nike. She is helping keep basketball alive in Seattle, a city Durant holds close to his heart. They both will be missed on the court, while they recover, but we know they will be back with a vengeance. Perhaps we’ll get a Stewie/KD revival collaboration sneaker when they come back. Nike, we’re looking at you.
