Chicago Sky have just traded Jantel Lavender, as well as their 2nd and 3rd round picks in the 2021 WNBA Draft, for Stephanie Mavunga from the Indiana Fever.
Lavender opted out of this season already, as she is recovering from a foot surgery. However, she has been working as an analyst for the Sky game broadcasts. She had a good 2019 season, contributing a lot to her team, so hopefully she will be back next year to join the league healthily – just in a different jersey.
Mavunga, on the other hand, is also battling some injury issues, as she suffered a fractured nose this season and has been out, due to required surgery. She has now been cleared to play, so she will be joining the Chicago team after completing quarantine. Mavunga has been averaging her career-high points, rebounds and assists, per game so far. I’m excited to see how her skillset will fit within the new team and if she can get those stats even higher.
The decision must have been tough for the Sky, but with some injuries and overall fatigue because of the condensed season, they need as many healthy players as possible to secure a spot in the playoffs and fight for the championship. Let’s see how this turns out!
