Nike Celebrates Día de Muertos
As a part of a tradition now, Nike has been blessing us with Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead) sneaker releases annually. This time, the line-up features the amazingly designed Air Max 90, Daybreak Type, Blazer Mid and Air Jordan 1 Mid – all of them deeply rooted in the Mexican culture and art.
My favorite model is the AM90 because of how colorful and cheerful it is. I love the mix of patterns and fabrics used, which resembles the crafty papel picado decorations, as well as Marigold flowers – all very traditional for Día de Muertos.
Speaking of traditions, the pack focuses strongly on the value of family with the Daybreak and Air Jordan 1 having ‘Para Mi Familia’ (For My Family) printed on the uppers. The slogan is also featured on the apparel line. The Air Jordan 1’s are kept in white/fuchsia/black/gold and are quite heavy on the stitching (kind of resembling Air Jordan 1 x UNLA), while the Daybreaks use more of gray and white, with colorful accents. The Blazers are the most toned-down, yet very neat. Their cracked leather upper and the faded colorful panels give these shoes a whole different character. And check out the cool swoosh too!
The collection has already released, but you should still be able to grab the kicks or clothes without issue. Make sure to show us your Day of the Dead or Halloween-inspired kicks by tagging @MadeForTheW on Instagram!
