WNBA All-Star Weekend for the Fans

We all know the saying, “What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas,” but anything but happened during All-Star Weekend.

We all know the saying, “What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas,” but anything but happened during All-Star Weekend. The weekend was split into two days, which created a great atmosphere for the fans. Friday night’s activities included the three-point contest and skills contest. The actual All-Star game was held on Saturday afternoon, with a lot of things in between the two main events. Las Vegas and the Aces put on a great weekend for the fans, with plenty to do. A fan fest was held both days, with plenty of activities for all ages. The fan fest was open to the public and even had some surprise guests show up.

Splitting up the weekend into two days was a brilliant idea and made the weekend even more of a celebration. The Mandalay Bay Events Center was full for the skills contest and fans seemed to really enjoy it. There was even a contest for the fans to participate in. A fan from each WNBA team competed in a shooting competition, and it was almost just as exciting as the real skills contest. The All-Star Beach Party took place on Friday night and allowed the players to have some fun before the big game. Snoop Dogg was the headliner, while also including Iggy Azalea and DJ Liz Cambage. Yes, that Liz Cambage from the Las Vegas Aces. Unfortunately, technical difficulties stopped Cambage from performing. The fans seemed to enjoy it nonetheless, as Iggy and Snoop kept the party going. Rapper Flavor Flav even decided to show up for the fun.

It was finally time for the game everyone had waited for, the 2019 WNBA All-Star Game. Anyone watching the game could tell they were having a lot of fun. The fans seemed to be equally split between cheering for Team Wilson or Team Delle-Donne. The players certainly put on a show for everyone and the crowd was loving it. Team Wilson ultimately came away with the win. The MVP for the game went to Erica Wheeler and it was very well deserved.

I can say in terms of kicks, the fans also brought the heat along with the players. I saw every type of shoe you can think of and it was pretty cool to witness. I think the best part of the whole weekend, was walking around with all of the former players, current players, the All-Stars themselves, and the best fans in the world, the fans of the WNBA. The WNBA has such a unique and loyal fan base, it certainly showed in Vegas over the weekend. Every player showed their appreciation towards the fans of the league and boy was it given back to them.
