With the grills going and pool parties in full effect, a fresh pair of kicks is essential for Memorial Day Weekend. The staple of Memorial Day is the white on-white Air Force 1. A clean classic that can be worn with anything and to some, is a one-and-done sneaker. This week on the release calendar has been rather light compared to what we are used to at this time of year, but still some gems that are worth adding to the closet.
Nike and Jordan Brand always give us something crazy for the holidays and this year, the focus was on the ladies. Seen worn by Jordin Canada a few months ago, the Women’s Air Jordan 3 “Rust Pink” hit retailers this weekend. The pink and infrared look was first seen on an Aleali May Air Jordan 6 collab that dropped back in 2019. This version offers a cream tongue, laced, and midsole to complete this clean sneaker. There was also a new colorway of the Nike Dunk High that dropped this weekend, inspired by the Los Angeles Lakers. This sneaker features a black upper, purple leather overlays, and a bold yellow Swoosh. The Nike branding on the back of each shoe is paying homage to the defending champs by having Nike spelled out in the iconic Laker font. The Air Griffey Max 1 was one of the must-haves, as a kid growing up. Ken Griffey Jr. was the reason most of us wanted to pick up a bat, and Nike is giving us another colorway in the Griffey Max 1. This blue, white, black, and lime green color scheme is inspired by the Seattle Mariners and this is the first time it has hit retailers since May 2016.
Other notable releases this week are the MMW x Nike Zoom 04, the Nike Waffle Trainer 2 “Fireberry”, the Nike Air Force 1 Experimental “Postal Ghost”, and the Yeezy Foam Runner “Mineral Blue” and “Sand”. Again, a light week on the calendar but the summer will be crazy so stay down and ready! Continue the good hunt and as always, rise, grind, and buy sneakers.
