Atlanta Dream – New Season, New Kicks

It is still early in the season, but the sneaker culture is quite alive and well.

After a comeback victory against the Wings to start the season, the Atlanta Dream had an entire week off, between games, which may have led to the results of what was waiting for them on the other end of that extended break. They underwent double-digit losses to both Seattle and Washington to begin their season as 1-2. Currently, in 11th place with scoring 72.3 ppg, they are also shooting 39.1% from the field.

With the first full week of league play in the books, the Dream are rearranging the pivotal pieces in order to strengthen the team’s defensive identity and presence.

While the week may have proven difficult in terms of on-court success, the area they were not lacking in whatsoever was the sneaker selection. Several ladies of the W’ are known to have some great kicks and to start off the season, they have been all getting in on the action.  The Dream players were certainly not about to miss out on their chance to shine.

During Friday’s game against Seattle, Alex Bentley rocked the Curry 6 “Christmas in the Town.” Brittany Sykes hit the court in the “Win Like 82” Jordan 11s. It was nice to see her sport those, as I had recently pulled out my own pair, to trek around town.

Monique Billings laced up a nice pair of custom Powerpuff Girls-themed LeBron Soldier 12s – likely my pick for kicks of the night. With Billings’ bubbly personality and bouncy style of play, they are definitely the perfect shoes for her.

June is recognized as LGBTQ Pride Month. With the WNBA being a vocal champion for diversity, inclusion, and standing at the forefront for various vital social causes, that means one can only expect more exclusive kicks making their debut on the court over the next few weeks, which are a touching representation of inclusion.

It is still early in the season, but the sneaker culture is quite alive and well. I have been told that when you lace-up well, you feel good. So hopefully that means when you feel good, you play good.

The Dream host the Las Vegas Aces, and Connecticut Sun this week. As they look to get on the winning side of the spectrum, I will be on the lookout to scout what sneakers they will wear.
